Around noon on 28 January 1945, Lt(jg) Wilbur L. Paris and his crew were credited with an air-to-air shoot down of a Japanese "Topsy" aircraft. The engagement occured approximately 150 miles from Hong Kong out in the South China Sea.
On 13 May 1945, flying out of Palawan Is. P.I., at 08:35Local, Lt(jg) Paris and his crew engaged and were awarded 1/2 credit for the air-to-air shoot down of a Japanese "Sonia," a Mitsubishi Ki-51 Army Type 99, twin seat, single engine, Ground Attack/Tactical Recon. aircraft. Lt. W.C. Bender and crew #6 from VPB-111 also engaged the target and were awarded the other 1/2 credit. The encountered took place approximately 60 miles south of the city of Pontianak on the island of Borneo. Lt(jg) Paris' Liberator, BuNo 46726 sustained damage from the rear mounted 7.7 mm machine gun onboard the "Sonia." Seven bullet holes were found just forward of the pilots seat and the starboard rudder was hit.
