On 3 May 1945, Lt Cmdr McClintock and his crew were credited with an air-to-air shoot down of a Japanese "Jake" (Aichi E13A1 Navy Type O single-engine reconnaissance seaplane. The patrol departed out of Puerto Princessa, Palawan Is, P.I. and around noon, spotted the "Jake" flying at 200 ft. off Cape Camau, French Indo-China (Vietnam). Lt Cmdr McClintock commenced his attack and AOM2c Gallagher in the bow successfully downed the reconnaissance seaplane. Lt Cmdr McClintock reported that the "Jake" was taken by surprise and he suspected the pilot was a novice as he did not try to evade or return fire.
