August 1944. VB-111squadron personnel on the move from FleetAirWing-5 (FAW-5), Quonset Point, RI to FAW-14. U.S. Navy Auxiliary Air Station, Camp Kearney, San Diego, CA. Transport was by train with stops made on the following dates and places: August 19, A.M., St. Louis, MO; August 19, P.M.. Little Rock, AR; August 20, P.M., El Paso, TX; August 21, A.M., Tucson, AZ; August 21, Pheonix, AZ; August 22, Los Angles, CA, and August 23, San Diego, CA.
On September 5th, while on plane guard, S2/c "Louie" Bresciano had to, twice, chase some guys away from the aircraft because they were out "mid-night" requisitioning gas from the light cart. I can imagine how gas rationing put a cramp in everybodies style. Squadron stayed at Camp Kearney until September 25, 1944 and then proceeded on orders to FAW-2, NAS Kaneohe, Terrotory of Hawaii, for combat refresher training.
