February-March 1945 Tacloban Air Field, Leyte Is., P.I. On 1 Feb 45, VPB-111 moved from Morotai to Tacloban to conduct combat operations against the Japanese. Tacloban City is the captial of Leyte Island and is located on the northeast side of the island. On 20 Oct 44, three months prior to the full Squadron's arrival, the Army's X Corps, consisting of the 1st Cav. Div. and 24th Div. landed at Tacloban with the 1st Cav. taking and holding the airfield. The airfield is located on a peninsula to the east and across the bay from Tacloban City.
Four crews from VPB-111 were detatched to McGuire Field, Mindoro Is., P.I. and remained there until 17 Mar 45. McGuire Field was an Army Airfield in the city of San Jose. The airfield was named in honor of 5th Air Force ace Thomas McGuire.
